Casual Chic: Luxury for Less

Every day we see our favorite celebrities, socialites, and influencers grace the pages of social media wearing the best from luxury brands. And while most of the population won’t walk into Barney’s and spend $4,000 on anything, we can recreate it.

Here are some tips for recreating a casual, luxury outfit on a budget:

  1. Look for high-quality, affordable alternatives to luxury brands. There are many fashion brands that offer stylish and well-made clothing at more reasonable prices. Stores like Theory, J. Crew, Zara, and Banana Republic have more affordable and high quality options to recreate these looks.

  2. Shop at discount stores and online marketplaces. These places often have great deals on gently used designer clothing. If you are a fan of thrifting, ThredUp is a great marketplace that sells pre-worn designer garments at an affordable price. Even better, because it’s a thrift store, you’re more than likely to fine unique, one-of-kind pieces.

  3. Get creative with your styling. You don't need to buy all new clothes to create a new look. Try mixing and

matching items you already own, or adding a few key pieces to elevate your outfit. I’ve always said, start with your closet. A lot of us purchase separates over time but never complete looks. We find ourselves staring at a closet full of pieces that either don’t go together or something we can’t use at all.

  4. Shop during sales and use coupons or discount codes. Many stores offer discounts on their products, so keep an eye out for sales and take advantage of them when you can. Special occasions like Black Friday and other celebrated holidays are notorious for putting select high end items on sale. Also, frequent outlet stores of luxury department stores that are known for selling designer at a cheaper rates like, Nordstrom Rack or Saks Off 5th, and go to their clearance section.

  5. If you are willing to invest in high-quality, timeless pieces that will last for years, then maybe splurging is the way to go. These pieces may cost more upfront, but they will save you money in the long run because you won't need to replace them as often.
